The Silver Seashell

When he was younger, John loved going to the beach. It meant a whole week to play with his two older brothers, Harry and Trent. But then Harry went away to college, and now Trent had to stay behind for his summer job. John was going to be the only kid at his family's beach house. He pictured himself floating in the water all by himself and sighed.
Before John and his parents left for the beach, Trent pulled John aside. He handed John a sparkly silver seashell. "Harry gave this to me the summer I was ten. Now that you're ten, it's your turn," Trent explained. "When you get to the beach, dip this seashell into the ocean."
"What will happen?" John asked.
"You'll see," Trent said with a wink.

The Forgotten Wand

Fern and Daisy had just finished a lesson on the dangers of magic spells on frogs. They were sitting alone in the now-empty classroom. They hadn't copied notes from the Headmaster Elf's lesson fast enough, so he had asked them to stay late to catch up.
"I'm so bored," Fern moaned. "I thought Elfin Magic School was going to be fun, but so far we haven't learned any magic at all. All we do is listen to Headmaster Elf talk about magic safety."
Daisy nodded. "If I hear one more word about why magic spells are dangerous, I'm going to scream!" She glanced toward Headmaster's desk, and then she did give a little scream.
"What is it?" cried Fern.
"Look! Headmaster forgot to lock his desk." Daisy pointed. Sure enough, Headmaster's magic wand was poking out from his desk drawer.
Fern's eyes widened, and then she grinned. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

What is Fern probably thinking as she grins?
