During Reconstruction, which lasted from 1865 to 1877, the United States attempted to reconstruct the Union, or bring the country back together.

The Civil War begins in 1861 when Confederate troops attack Fort Sumter. After Lincoln calls for troops to restore the Union, four more states join the Confederacy.
