Día de los Muertos is a holiday in Mexico. Its name means "Day of the Dead." It is a happy holiday to remember friends and family who have died. People believe the spirits of their loved ones come back to visit on Día de los Muertos.

To get ready for the spirits, people decorate graves. A grave is a place where a dead person is buried. On Día de los Muertos, people clean the graves. They bring candles and flowers to make the graves beautiful. They bring food to the graves to have a party. Some people stay all night to visit with the spirits of the dead.

Día de los Muertos happens on November 1st and 2nd. It is close to another holiday called Halloween. But it is not the same. On Día de los Muertos, the spirits of the dead are not scary. The spirits come back to celebrate with the people they love.
