Davy Crockett was born in Tennessee in 1796. Davy and his family were settlers. Settlers were people who moved to a new place to start a new community. The place they moved to was called the frontier.

On the frontier, settlers lived far away from towns and cities. They had to do things for themselves. They cut down trees to build their homes. They hunted and grew their own food. Davy did not go to school very much. He farmed and hunted to help his family. Hunting on the frontier was not easy. Davy had to be strong and brave.

When the settlers came to the frontier, Native American people already lived there. The settlers wanted land from the Native Americans. So, Davy Crockett and other settlers fought a war against Native American people. The United States government helped the settlers win the war. Native American people lost a lot of land.

After the war, Davy Crockett got a job as a leader in Tennessee. Many people liked having him as a leader. He knew how hard it was to be a settler. He could help to make things better for them. Later, Davy Crockett got a job in the United States Congress. Congress makes laws for the country. Davy Crockett wanted to make laws that helped settlers on the frontier.
