Listen and read along with the passage about Rosh Hashanah.

This page about Rosh Hashanah is written in Hebrew. Hebrew has its own alphabet.
Many Jewish people celebrate a holiday called Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah is sometimes called the Jewish New Year. It is always celebrated in the fall. But the date changes every year, because it is based on a special calendar that counts days and months differently. In some years, Rosh Hashanah is celebrated in September. In other years, it is celebrated in October.
The name "Rosh Hashanah" means "head of the year" in a language called Hebrew. In other words, it is the start of a new year. It is a time to think about the year that just ended. People remember the things they did in the past year. They think about whether those things were good or bad. People ask each other for forgiveness for any mistakes they may have made. They also think about good things to do in the new year.
