Ramadan is a very important time of the year for Muslim people all over the world. Ramadan is the name of a special month in a calendar that Muslims use. Because Ramadan is from a different calendar, the dates change every year.

During Ramadan, Muslims remember a special man named Muhammad. Muhammad lived long ago in the city of Mecca. Muhammad was a thoughtful person who wanted everyone to be treated fairly. He would go to a cave in Mecca to pray and think about how people should live.

Muslims believe that an angel visited Muhammad in the cave. The angel told Muhammad God's teachings. When Muhammad left the cave, he shared God's messages. These messages are the religion of Islam. Muslims can read them in a special book called the Quran.

Muslims believe God's messages came to Muhammad over many years. But he received the first one during the month of Ramadan. So Muslims take time during the month of Ramadan to pray and think about God's teachings.
