George Washington Carver as a teacher
George Washington Carver was born in Missouri in the 1860s. Back then, many places were segregated. Segregated means that Black people were kept apart from white people. Black people were not allowed to use the same parks, libraries, or schools as white people.
Men and women did not eat meals at the same restaurants.
Black people could not go to the same places as white people.
Only Black children could go to schools and churches.
