Rosa Parks when she worked in the Civil Rights Movement

Rosa Parks was born in Alabama in 1913. She lived at a time when laws were very unfair to Black people like Rosa. Many places were segregated. Segregated means that Black people were kept apart from white people. They could not use the same schools, churches, and libraries as white people.

There were school buses for white children, but not for Black children. So Rosa had to walk to school. The school for white children was new and nice. Rosa's school was old and crowded, so students could not get all the help they needed.

When Rosa Parks grew up, she became a part of the Civil Rights Movement. People in the Civil Rights Movement wanted to end unfair laws that kept Black people separate. They wanted Black people to be treated fairly.
