Stage 1
Answer 3 out of 4 questions correctly.
In the United States, the Constitution divides power between two levels of government in a system called
federalism.
But not all countries divide power this way. Read the passage describing different systems of government. Then follow the instructions below.A unitary government is a system where the central government has most or all governing power. The central government can choose to give power to smaller regional governments such as states.
A federation is a union of partially independent states under a central government. In a federation, power is formally divided between the central government and the states so that both levels of government have roughly equal power.
A confederation is a group of states united for purposes of common action. Each state is an independent political unit, and the central government is small and only exists to coordinate actions the states take together.
Decide whether each statement best describes a unitary government, a federation, or a confederation.
