There are two types of planets in the solar system: rocky planets and giant planets. Rocky planets are mostly made of rock and metal. They have a diameter between 4,800 and 12,800 kilometers. Giant planets are mostly made of gas and ice. They have a diameter between 49,000 and 143,000 kilometers.
