One summer day, Christy was outside helping her dad spray paint some handles for their kitchen cabinets. When they finished, her dad asked her to take the spray paint inside, because leaving it in the hot sun could cause the canisters to explode. He explained that raising a gas's temperature also raises its pressure. Christy wondered how she could test this relationship. Not wanting to cause any explosions, she decided to test it with her dad's car tires. She predicted that the tire pressure would increase after he drove, since the tires would warm up on the road. She measured the pressure of each tire on her dad's car before he drove it to work. When he came home, she measured the pressure again. She was excited to see that each tire's pressure had increased! She concluded that she was correct in predicting that driving raises the pressure in car tires.
