An integer is a number without a fractional part. Integers can be positive, negative, or zero. All whole numbers are integers. Here are some examples of integers:

are not integers. They have fractional parts.

Integers on number lines

You can plot integers on number lines. On a number line, negative integers are to the left of zero, and positive integers are to the right of zero.

You can use integers to represent real-world situations. A positive number can show a gain or increase. A negative number can show a loss or decrease.
