What is the mean of the numbers?

The mean is the average of the numbers. You find the mean by adding the numbers together and then dividing by the number of numbers in the group.

Read the numbers from the line plot. Each X represents one number.

First, count how many numbers are in the group.

There are 12 numbers.

Now add all the numbers together:

0 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 5 + 5 + 6 + 6 = 36

Now divide the sum by the number of numbers:

36 ÷ 12 = 3

The mean is 3.
