Which point of view does the narrator use in the passage?

Here's how I see it: eighth grade is the end of the road for me. It's my last chance before high school to get a new reputation—one that doesn't involve me puking turkey bacon in the gym. I wasn't expecting a miracle. I know my first day of eighth grade is bound to be cursed in some way, but I was hoping— desperately hoping— that it would be more good than bad.

Kira-kira means "glittering" in Japanese. Lynn told me that when I was a baby, she used to take me onto our empty road at night, where we would lie on our backs and look at the stars while she said over and over, "Katie, say 'kira-kira, kira-kira.'" I loved that word!

The narrator of a story is the voice that is telling, or narrating, the story. A narrator's point of view is the perspective from which a story is told. There are three main points of view:

first-person,

the narrator describes events from his or her own perspective. First-person narrators use first-person pronouns, such as

me,

we,

and

us.

I waded slowly across the river, holding my backpack high above the water.

second-person,

the narrator casts the reader as a character in the story. Second-person narrators use second-person pronouns, such as you and

your.

You turn the page in anticipation, eager to find out where the story will lead.

third-person,

the narrator describes events from the perspective of an outside observer. Third-person narrators use third-person pronouns, such as

he,

she,

him,

and

her,

as well as characters' names.

With a third-person-limited point of view, the narrator's knowledge is limited to what a single character knows and feels.

Maria wondered whether her new neighbor's laugh was genuine.

With a third-person-omniscient point of view, the narrator is all-knowing and often reveals multiple characters' thoughts and feelings.

Bernard was confident that the model rocket would launch without a hitch, but Nina had her doubts.
