The most common linking verbs are forms of the verb to be. Other linking verbs include look, taste, feel, sound, appear, become, grow, stay, and remain.

Some verbs can be used as either linking verbs or action verbs.

Linking verb: Jenna grew tired as the evening wore on.

Action verb: Jenna grew tomatoes and squash in her garden last year.
