Thus, in 1942, the government built the town of Oak Ridge in Tennessee. They designed it so people would want to live there. Oak Ridge had bowling alleys, skating rinks, tennis courts, and even a dance hall. Young people came from all over the country to work in Oak Ridge's factories.
