Read a text about Oak Ridge.
During World War II, the United States government developed the atomic bomb. This powerful weapon had never before been built. However, experts believed that with the right skills and technology, it could be done. They needed lots of space to build the bomb. They also needed factories, workers, and places for people to live. Thus, in 1942, the government built the town of Oak Ridge in Tennessee. They designed it so people would want to live there. Oak Ridge had bowling alleys, skating rinks, tennis courts, and even a dance hall. Young people came from all over the country to work in Oak Ridge's factories.
