Read the passage about Jane
Goodall,
a scientist who studied chimpanzees.
Jane Goodall is known for her work with chimpanzees, or chimps. Jane moved to Africa to live near wild chimps. She wanted to learn more about them.
Jane watched and listened to the chimps. She learned many new things.
People used to think chimps only ate plants. But Jane saw them eat bugs and small animals, too.
Jane was the first person to learn that chimps could use tools. She watched chimps get a snack by using branches to get bugs out of holes.
Jane also heard the chimps make sounds like hoots and barks. She learned that chimps use these different sounds to tell things to one another.
Jane shared many things she learned about chimps. Thanks to her, we know much more about these interesting animals.
Why did Jane move to Africa?
