  • Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain. But that's not the only reason it's so hard to climb. Snow can suddenly slide down the mountain. The sliding snow is called an avalanche. Avalanches can knock climbers over and trap them.
  • Climbers also have to worry about large cracks in the ice called crevasses. Some crevasses on Everest are so deep, climbers can fall into them.
  • The air is another problem. The higher people climb, the thinner the air is. So, it becomes harder to breathe. But some amazing climbers still make it all the way to the top!
