Listen and read along with the passage about Susan B. Anthony.
"Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906)" by JT Vintage, Glasshouse Images/Alamy Stock Photo
Susan B. Anthony's parents taught her that everyone should be equal. They said all people should be allowed to do the same things.

When Susan was alive, life was different in the United States. Men and women were not treated equally. Laws said that women could not vote. It was also hard for women to earn money or own houses.

But Susan believed that women were equal to men. She was a good speaker, and she shared her ideas with crowds all over the United States. She said that laws about women should change. She told the crowds that women should get paid as much as men for the same work. She also said women should be allowed to vote.

Susan became famous for her ideas. She worked with other people to help get some laws changed. Today, thanks to their hard work, women can vote, earn more money, and own houses.
